Meet the Founders and Advisors


Dan Giurescu, CEO and President

Dan is the Founder of TerraHub. He created TerraHub after recognizing the untapped potential of blockchain and artificial intelligence in the energy sector. He quickly started identifying operational efficiencies that could be gained by connecting core business functions and systems within a private, intelligent network.

Dan thrives on the challenge of commercializing new concepts, guiding teams and inspiring action by creating an environment where taking risks in pursuit of success is encouraged.

Prior to TerraHub, Dan leveraged his industry and regulatory knowledge, financial acumen and technology expertise to co-found Caledonia Solutions, a supply chain software for the dangerous goods industry, moving the industry away from paper and into digital innovation.

Community focused - Dan supports numerous local charities and is a Member of The A100 , Mentor with IBM District Ventures, TEC Canada Blockchain Advisor and Board Member of Athabasca University Business Leadership Advisory Council.

Evan Hu, CTO Artificial Intelligence

Evan has thirty years of experience in the creation and management of successful businesses, and a proven track record in growing and mentoring successful professionals and teams. His most recent exit, Ideaca Knowledge Services, grew to be one of Canada’s Top 100 Solutions Providers and was later acquired by Hitachi Canada. Evan brings three key attributes to TerraHub, his proven ability to scale and grow successful teams, his passion for artificial intelligence and his experience as a technology entrepreneur. Evan as a CoFounder compliments the company’s ability to invest in and commercialize the most compelling blockchain and artificial intelligence product ideas.

Presently an active angel investor, startup mentor and community volunteer, Evan is a Founding Partner of Creative Destruction Labs, Rockies , Chairman of Platform Calgary and Founding Member of A100. Evan was recently recognized as a leader in the tech community by being presented the Rod Charko Service Award.

John Dugdale, CRO

John has deep roots in the technology ecosystem spending his career ensuring that organizations have access to the best and brightest in the technology realm. A natural leader, John brings his passion and creativity to all of TerraHub's relationships. John as a CoFounder compliments the company’s ability to keep things simple, fun and collaborative while bringing new ideas and experiences into the world.

Community minded and a local Community Coach, John will one day achieve his dream of taking two points from Roger Federer in a game. As a community volunteer and advisor, John supports Platform Calgary startups, entrepreneurs and new Canadians connect into the local economy. As a father of two, he is passionate about empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders and has created educational and internship opportunities for Bow Valley College, SAIT and University of Calgary.

John Dugdale, CRO

Elena Dumitrascu, CTO Blockchain

Elena as a computer scientist and ecosystem builder, is a driving force in driving global blockchain adoption. Recently recognized as an expert and a national leader in Canada and the United States, Elena is a pioneer in private blockchain education and software development. Elena as a CoFounder compliments the company’s ability to spot emerging trends and cross industry boundaries.

Previously an executive in software development and sales for supply chain, energy, automotive and e-commerce, Elena brings an enormous breadth of experience in identifying what, and determining how, new technologies best serve an organization.

Prior to TerraHub, Elena joined Cortex Business Solutions, where she combined her sales, industry and technical knowledge to build towards the company’s turnaround from $13M pubic valuation to and exit of $45M in 2019.

Her passion is growing the capabilities of the next generation of innovators. She serves on the Board of the A100 and Chic Geek, is a Founding Business Mentor with Technovation and an Executive in Residence at Platform Calgary, where she co-created the Junction program for new entrepreneurs.

Our Advisors

Darren Engels

Darren Engels has over 18 years of business, financial and investment experience, of which 15 years were at FirstEnergy, a premier boutique investment bank focused on energy.

Mr. Engels is enthusiastic for entrepreneurship and helping good people and companies achieve success. He is currently a business and financial advisor for several start-up and entrepreneurial companies that are focused in various industries and technologies.

Previously, Darren was a Director, Institutional Research at GMP FirstEnergy.

Engels holds a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge and a Masters of Professional Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as CPA CA and CFA designations.

Paul K. O'Donoghue

Paul brings over 25 years of corporate finance experience with a focus on corporate development, financings (debt/equity), acquisitions/divestitures, investor relations, risk management, marketing and legal affairs. Paul has participated (led or co-led) in over $2 billion in capital funding (debt/equity) and has managed numerous multi-million dollar M&A transactions. He has also acted on behalf of several private ventures in both management and director roles.

Paul is an independent businessman. Currently, he is the Executive Chairman of Showpass and Managing Director of Canadian Discovery. Paul has an active role in both companies, with overall responsibility for corporate and strategic development.

Paul holds an MBA in Finance from the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Oklahoma University.

Alex Munro

Alex Munro started his career in industrial technology analysis and international structured finance. Mr. Munro moved into public venture capital in London, UK before returning to Canada to found Cenovus Energy Ventures and later Fronterra Ventures, both North American natural resources technology investment funds. He later invested with Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures in Houston before taking on the role of Director, Capital Advisory with MaRS-DD, the world's largest innovation hub based in Toronto. He is a standing advisor to a variety of small- and medium-sized technology enterprises predominantly in fintech, cybersecurity, and data-driven decision-making.

Munro holds an MBA from Berkeley and Rotterdam and is presently pursuing a PhD in financial markets focussing on vega-neutral options trading strategies.

Celine Gerson

Céline Gerson brings over 20 years of experience in the energy industry with both entrepreneurial companies and Fortune 500 organizations. In 2018, she was appointed as President of Schlumberger Canada Ltd.

She serves on numerous boards of non-profit organizations, such as the Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC) and the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources (CSUR). She is a member of the Schulich Industry Advisory Council at the University of Calgary and the Director of Marketing for the 69th Canadian Energy Executive Association. She is actively involved with promoting and mentoring women and is an Advisory Board member of Schlumberger’s ConnectWomen Network.

She regularly speaks at conferences around the world and is passionate about mentoring startup companies with cutting edge technologies for the energy industry.

Gerson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the European University in Brussels; a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston, is a Harvard Business School Alumni and is licensed to practice law in Texas.

Ed Ma

Ed Ma is an experienced senior legal counsel, having spent the majority of his career as in-house counsel serving high growth, high profile private and public companies of all sizes from start-ups to multi-national corporations.

Mr. Ma is an accomplished negotiator with a track record of success and has concluded numerous international transactions. He attributes his success to having a business mind and being a good communicator. His main practice areas include energy law, corporate commercial law, technology law and aboriginal law. He is passionate about technology and environmental stewardship. He is a native Calgarian committed to his community. Since 2012, Mr. Ma has served as a Director on the board of ProBono Law Alberta.

Ma holds a Law Degree from the University of Windsor, Executive Leadership from Queen’s University and Advanced Negotiation from Harvard Law School.

Robert Schulz

“Dr. Bob” Schulz is a Professor and Academic Director for the Energy and Professional Land Management concentration with the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. The media often seeks his perspective on energy issues. Over the past 46 years, he has received 25 outstanding teaching and service awards, including Top 10 Teaching Professor among 39,000 Canadian Professors in all disciplines. He was the first recipient of the Order of the University of Calgary.

Dr. Bob has been an angel investor, director, and advisor for more than 30 Public and Private companies, many of those founded by former students.As a coach, Bob’s students have won more than 100 national and global competitions. He is well known as a “super connector” and is a board director of the Global Innovation Management Institute.

Schultz holds four degrees, including BSc Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and PhD in Business from Ohio State.
